Conferences begin this Thursday!  I am sending home a 3 pluses and a wish sheet today.  Please fill out this sheet and return on Monday.  Thank you!

Please be aware of all the changes that will be happening after spring break with our building:

  • Mr. Morey has sent home communications regarding the back parking lot and general construction details.  Because of the school bond that passed last year, the schools are renovating the main offices to become safer, and in our (Wealthy Elementary's) case, easier to access.
  • Our library will also be renovated (thanks to our bond) and so it also will be closing next week.  Please search high and low for missing library books.  They need to be returned by next week!

Our EGRSF's EGRNOW campaign is now in full effect.  Did you know that funding for all salaried employees in public schools is not directly paid by our taxes, but rather by our state?  We are not in control of how much money we receive per pupil, which pays for salaries, curriculum and many other items.  The only way we can support our schools via direct funds is through school bonds (buildings) and EGRNOW.  If you are interested in knowing more, please go to the EGRSF website and also the 2014-2015 EGRPS budget guide:  http://www.egrps.org/documents/Files/2014-2015Files/CommunityBudgetGuide.pdf.  As a parent in the district, I have supported EGRNOW since the beginning because I want my children to have the best education possible without cutting programs and/or teachers.  It's not a long-term solution, but if I can support my children's education, I will.  Please take a moment to read through the information when you can.  If you have any questions, I'd be happy to discuss them with you.

Science News...We are weather watchers!  Part of our weather unit is learning to use different types of weather tools to help us learn more about weather.  We used thermometers this week to test out air temperatures vs. water temperatures vs. ice water temps.
Reading & Writing News...We wrote to our Burton friends this week to convince them of our favorite books.  We are hoping to have a few more communications and then possibly meet at the end of the year.  Stay tuned for more details...
Math News...Big numbers are our focus now.  We are learning about place value, dividing a two-digit number into groups of tens and one (37= 3 tens, 7 ones).  This is a fun unit as their number sense begins to kick into high gear.

Save the date!
April 20th will be our field trip to Meijer Gardens to kick off our Life Cycles unit with a focus on butterflies.  There is an information sheet coming home today if you are interested in joining us.  Each 1st grade class can bring 4 pre-paid chaperones (from our budget).  However, if you have a Meijer Gardens's membership OR if you are willing to pay the general cost of entry, we can have as many chaperones as we like :-).  Please send in the form before Spring Break if you are interested and we will get back to you as soon as possible!
