Thank you to our volunteers that joined us last Friday for a very beautiful afternoon at Meijer Gardens!  There were so many butterflies to observe and, as always, the Children's Garden is one of Grand Rapids best treasures to explore.  This trip jump-started our science unit on animal habitats, life cycles and heredity (young and adult characteristics).  We are also continuing our weather watchers unit with building measurement tools to calculate weather conditions.  Last week, we made wind socks (currently in our hallway) and used a real wind sock to determine the direction and strength of wind.  This week, we explored different types of clouds and made a cloud in a bottle (there are great youtube videos that you can watch and do this experiment at home).  We will create and send home rain gauges on Monday to track rainfall for the week.  More detailed instructions will be coming home in backpacks Monday!

Earth week was a fun one!  Thank you for donating your water bottles to make beautiful sun-catchers like the ones below.  We also had a serious playground trash competition (1st grade didn't win, but they did try!) and many many walkers, bikers and scooter riders this week.  :)

Field Day is next Friday morning (May 2nd) for 1st grade!  Please dress your child in appropriate clothes for the weather and comfortable closed-toed shoes for the many fun activities planned.  Thank you to those that have already signed up to help via the office.  They are still looking for volunteers if you are interested in helping!

Wizard Walk contribution forms are due May 9th, although you may turn them in anytime.  Even if you do not have contributions, turn in the form to be in the drawing for Family Fun Night tickets!

Please see the previous blog post for calendar updates in case you missed it!

Have a fantastic weekend!
