All About Mrs. Miller

Hello first grade friends!

A little about me (as teacher):

This is my second year teaching first grade at Wealthy Elementary. I taught 1st grade and 2nd grade in Mattawan and Allegan for seven years prior to taking a hiatus to stay at home when my girls were born.  Nine years ago, Brian and I moved to East Grand Rapids from Kalamazoo for his position with Davenport University and I stayed at home with our two girls until last year. I am a Hope College alum, where I majored in elementary education and psychology.  I received my Master in Reading at Western Michigan University.

A little about my family (as mom):
  • Anabel, our 4th grade Lakeside Lion, loves to play tennis, investigate the outdoors and read, read, read.
  • Olivia, our 2nd grade Lakeside Lion, loves to do gymnastics, play games & puzzles and dance, dance, dance.
  • My husband, Brian Miller, works at Davenport University and is also one of the City Commissioners for our city.  He loves to camp,  geo-cache with Anabel and Liv and act very goofy to make us all laugh.
  • Our cat, Cookie, pretends to be a "Chi-wa-la" like Skippy Jon Jones (yes, he's Siamese!).  He likes to take Mr. Miller's socks from the closet and bring them down to the front door.  We are not sure why, but it is always interesting to see which sock is downstairs in the morning.

A little about me (as myself):

I love to...be with my family, read, go outside, collect rocks, read picture books to my girls, camp in a tent, kayak, swim (Hope Dutch alum!), watch movies, be with friends and family, go to Jersey Junction, eat s'mores, have campfires, travel to new places, visit Tennessee where I lived for many years as a kid (I'm a retired Army brat), and work and laugh with first graders!

In July, we drove through the Badlands and camped in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Glacier National Park in Montana.  Here are a few pictures from our fun trip:

In the Badlands, SD:  Anabel is the one in blue & gold, Olivia has on her favorite color...PINK!

Colorful beehives in the field

Big, big buffalo in the Black Hills, South Dakota.

Wait...is that a brontosaurus?!

We had to drive slow.  There were a lot of wild horses walking next to the road near the Rocky Mountains!

Pretty wildflowers...some of my favorite asters.

A mountain goat family right by our hiking trail.

The ice-cold lake (I swam in it!) by our campground at Two Medicine in Glacier National Park.
