Thank you to the parents that came last night to conferences! It was a wonderful time to celebrate your first grader and look at the growth that he/she made this year. I look forward to talking with the rest of our first grade families on Tuesday, April 1st!
April happenings...
April IXL calendars will be attached to your email that I sent to you today. For the month of April, we will be focusing on time and money in math. Please have your child work on fractions, money and time over the course of the month. For money, we will be identifying the different coins and making combinations of change. In time, we will begin our focus on telling time by the hour and half an hour (and moving on from there!). I've written down the certain activities to focus on, but if your child would like to take the challenge to work through the other sections in the fractions, time & money categories, please do!
We will be taking our last field trip on Friday, April 18th to Meijer Gardens to view the butterflies for our life cycles unit in science. We will take a bus (just like our field trip to the Fulton St. Farmer's Market) and have parent volunteers meet us there. I am in need of 6 parents to be group leaders. More volunteers are welcome! We are able to have 6 parents at no cost, with additional parents paying $8.00 a ticket (rather than $12.00 at the door) unless you have a membership (then it's free!). I would first like to give the opportunity of parent leader to those that have not been able to volunteer this year. Coming home in folders today is more information. Please email me if you would like to volunteer or fill out the form and return to school on Monday! This will be a fun trip! Thank you in advance for all your help!
We have been graphing our minutes of reading for the month of March and finished today by counting up all of our minutes: 1,200 minutes! Wow! We have great, excited readers in our classroom! So exciting!!
The EGRNow campaign has now started. Please read over the information on the East Grand Rapids School Foundation website: http://egrsf.org/giving/egr-now/. We are fortunate to have such a successful and supportive Foundation that allows our schools to continue our children's excellent educations.
On a sad note (but unrelated note to our school), our local children's bookstore, Pooh's Corner, in Breton Village Mall is closing. This weekend they are having a 20% off sale. I've visited Pooh's since my girls were babies, loving the local feel and dedication the staff had to quality children's books and toys. They will be missed!
