Okay, are you ready for the next two weeks? There are so many amazing things going on in our classroom and at Wealthy this month (two weeks)...Get ready...Set...
Dec. 11th, Wednesday: Kids Food Basket Items are due! Please see my older post as to suggestions of donations to bring. This is a local program that supports kiddos in Grand Rapids and West Michigan that do not have enough to eat for breakfast or dinner--and there are too many. If you are looking for a family experience that can promote good will and service to our community in 2014, please visit their website: http://www.kidsfoodbasket.org/ for more information on how you can help them directly. We took our girls last year (when they were in kindergarten and 2nd grade) to help make brown bag lunches at this wonderful facility. They have jobs for the very young and old (from putting stickers on brown bags to making sandwiches). A worthwhile way your family can experience making a difference.
Dec. 12th, Flea market Thursday! If you haven't experienced this yet (like me), I've heard we are in for a treat :). The fourth graders are selling creations in the gym from 12:30-2:00pm. If you would like attend the market with us and help (I'D LOVE HELP), we will be going from 1:25ish-1:50ish. What your child should bring (if they would like to purchase items):
1. 5 dollars or less in quarters (preferably in a ziplock bag or little zippered container)
2. meijer/plastic shopping bag for goodies
Please email me if you can help on Thursday afternoon. We will be packing Kids Food Basket items after recess from 2:15-3:00 if you'd like to stay the whole afternoon. I'd LOVE the extra help!
Dec. 13th, Friday: Family Tradition pages and Toys for Tots service papers/donations are due! Please make sure these are returned so that we can write about our family traditions the following week! THANK YOU!
Dec. 17th, Tuesday: Cultural Traditions Day. Does your family have a specific family tradition that is linked to your family history from another country? I am seeking one family that would like to share a unique craft(or)story(or)dance(or)song who can come in from 8:30-10:00 on Tuesday the 17th (you would be doing 20-30 minute presentations for three rotations). We will be mixing up our 1st grade friends once again for this experience. Please let me know if you are interested. I would be happy to assist and help in any way!
Dec. 19th, Thursday: Holiday Party in our room from 12:30-1:30, early recess at 1:45-2:00, all-school Holiday Concert from 2:00ish-3:00. Phew! Fun day! Hope you can join us!
Dec. 20th, Friday: PAJAMA DAY. Please have your child where some comfy clothes/PJs to school. They can bring slippers to change into, a stuffed animal friend that can fit in their backpack, and a favorite book. We will have a relaxing day, reading in hibernation stations we will create, having a popcorn snack and celebrating our last day together in 2013.
WILLY WONKA news...The chorus for Willy Wonka will not meet until late January. Specific dates are not quite set, but will be coming soon...stay tuned!
We said goodbye to our cadet teacher, Briana Dalton, on Thursday. She has finished her 1st semester education course at Aquinas and will continue on her education journey. She helped us three times a week in the afternoon during math and social studies/science times.
No library today. Due to a fire drill, we will not be having library this week. We will return back to the library next Friday for one last checkout before our break.
Half Birthdays...Please consider celebrating your child's 1/2 birthday if they have a summer birthday! We have many, many, many summer birthdays in our class this year. If you have a specific date that you would like to celebrate, please let me know and we'll put it on the calendar! If your child's birthday falls on a Tuesday, we can celebrate at 11:10 instead of 3:00 due to specials. Thank you!
Parent Volunteers...Thank you for all you do! If you volunteer in the morning and can come in by 8:30/8:40 instead of our original 9:00, we would love to have you then to begin our center rotations. If you cannot, I totally understand--please come on in when you can! Please check the calendar on the blog to make sure that I have you on the correct times/dates!
