22 November 2013

Our November school days are coming to a close (how did that happen?)!

We’ve been busy working on maps, finishing our small moments writing unit (informational writing is coming up next), relating addition and subtraction number stories to each other/fact families, and reading, reading, reading!  Your children are becoming more independent and learning to take their time to do their personal best.  I am thankful for all of your beautiful, energetic fun-loving children and thankful for you.

A message from our Student Leadership Team:
Our Student Leadership Team has organized a school-wide service learning project. Together as a school, we are creating breakfast bundles for Kid’s Food Basket. These bundles are passed out to area schools to ensure that every child starts their day with a nutritious breakfast.  We are asking each child to donate one of the following items:  individual cereal boxes, juice boxes (100% juice, please), fruit snacks/raisins, granola bars, plastic bags. I may follow up with further requests depending on the number of bags we are able to fill and the remaining items.  There will be a designated spot in our classroom to collect these items, so feel free to send them in anytime. Our last collection day with be Wednesday, December 11. Thank you for your support!

Holiday Party update:  The first grades will have their holiday parties on Thursday, Dec. 19th from 12:30-1:30.  Following the party, you are invited to stay for our Holiday Concert in the Pioneer Auditorium at 2pm.  If you are interested in helping out during the holiday party, please look for an email from Samantha Cornell (Harry's mom) after our Thanksgiving break.  On Friday, Dec. 20th, our first graders will have a pajama day celebration, full of cozy books, friends and fun.

Thank you for entrusting your children to our school and our classroom.  Thank you for giving your child a safe, loving environment at home so they feel safe at school to take risks, learn and build relationships.  I am reminded each morning how wonderfully unique and amazing my little first grade friends are.  I hope that you have a great break!
