We practiced reading with fluency this week: reading with expression, smoothness and accuracy. We learned that nouns are people, places, things and animals...hunting for them in our poetry notebooks and around our school. Next week, we will begin talking about singular and plural nouns and possessive nouns.
We continue on with related facts in math and the relationship of addition and subtraction number sentences this next week.
We read books and judged collections this week in preparation for our persuasive unit in writing. We are looking at things from other people's viewpoints, while also deciding which idea fits best with personal choices.
Next week we will dive deeper into investigating water (our float/sink experiments with magnets were fun this week) and the properties of a solid, liquid and a gas.
We have had the privilege of have our publishing center publish our small moments books this year. They have not made it home yet (sorry!) because they have been enjoying reading them in the classroom. They will be coming home at conferences at the end of the March. Elizabeth Iorio (Amelia's mom) is co-chairing the publishing center this year and she is looking for extra volunteers. Please read her note below and contact her if you can help with this exciting project:
Wealthy Publishing Center needs you!! Publishing Center volunteers work directly with children (1st-3rd grade) to review and edit stories. The stories are then typed by volunteer typists and bound into books. It is such a great opportunity to work one on one with kids, helping foster their love of writing and creating memorable keepsakes! It is truly priceless to see the kids' excitement and sense of pride as their writing becomes a published book. The Publishing Center is open Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:15 AM and has been in existence at Wealthy for 25+ years. Please help keep the tradition alive! If interested in being a volunteer in the center or volunteer typist, please contact co-chairs Elizabeth Iorio empiorio@comcast.net or Amorak Huey amorakhuey@comcast.net
Now...are you ready for March? Here it comes:
Our school play, The Little Mermaid, will be showing March 5th-7th at 7:00pm. We will be seeing the show on Wednesday during the day!
