Thank you, thank you, thank you for your donations this week to Toys for Tots. We walked to our EGR Public Safety office to drop them off this afternoon. They are so proud and feel so good GIVING. It's a lovely thing to witness.
A big thank you to our parent volunteers that helped yesterday during the flea market. It is not an easy task! They had a great time and have been planning on what they will make when they are in 4th grade...slow them down!
This week...
On Wednesday, we traveled the world with our passports, bringing our maps unit of study to a close. Thank you to Mrs. Cano, Michelle's mom, for teaching us about Mexican traditions and learning more about the Mexican flag! We also traveled to Japan in Mrs. Hitchcock's room and Italy in Mrs. Sawade's room. We have world travelers now! We didn't a chance to write more in their passports. They may use these as they would like.
During our reading workshop time, we continue to practice our traditional readers theaters stories this week with the hopes of video taping them (we will put them up on Shutterfly).
During math, we are learning new strategies for math facts that will help us adding and subtract more fluently.
- Count on: If you are adding 1, 2, or 3 to a number you can use COUNTING ON. Start with the biggest ADDEND and then count on from that number to find the sum (8+3, start at 8 and then add on by saying "8...9, 10, 11").
- Add doubles: If you are adding two numbers that are the same, these are called our doubles facts! Put these doubles facts (up to 10+10 or greater if they'd like a challenge) onto FLASH CARDS and practice these at home. Knowing these fluently will help them with our strategy for next week: doubles +1 and doubles -1 (if you know that 8+8=16, then you know that 8+7=15, etc).
Have a fantastic weekend!
