Thank you to those parents I met with last night for conferences! It was a rewarding time for me to talk about your child's successes, goals and share their hard work with you. I look forward to meeting with the rest of our first grade families on Tuesday! If you need a reminder for your time, please do not hesitate to email/call/ask!
This week we brushed up on our vowel sounds (short and long) and continued summarizing stories by talking about the beginning/middle/end. We finished up our observations and fact finding about bats and goods and services. We began learning about maps this week by creating our own community map, filled with goods and services stores that we created. This gigantic map is still in the works and will be posted out in the hall for your enjoyment when fully completed :).
Monday is Veteran's Day and we will celebrate will an all-school assembly in the afternoon. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR RED, WHITE, AND/OR BLUE on Monday! Unfortunately, I will not be here in the afternoon, as my dad, a 21 year Veteran of the US Army, will be honored at my daughters' school--(Lakeside) at their Veteran's Day assembly the same day. Our first grade classes created pictures to compliment the Thank You, Soldiers song they will be singing at the assembly. If you get a chance, they are above our lockers! Our first graders did a great job at creating pictures of our heroes.
In math, we are working on counting on to figure out addition number sentences faster to compute (for 6+2...starting with the number 6 and counting on 2...6...7,8...instead of starting from scratch to add together). We will be working on math facts for the next few weeks, focusing on memorizing basic facts. Working on these at home with flashcards is a great way to support our learning!
Carter was our expert of the week this week! Thank you, Carter, for showing us your equipment and teaching us facts about skiing!
Have a lovely weekend!
